Many adults can’t live on their own without help and support from others. This may be because they have a physical or learning disability, mental health and other support needs or because they are older and have become frail.
The Shared Lives Scheme offers these adults the chance to live with families who can offer the support and encouragement they need to live as independently as possible.
How you can help varies from person to person, it could be help with appointments, making meals, collecting medication or just being there when needed.
This could be for a few nights a month to offer families respite or on a longer-term basis where an individual moves into your home.
Shared Lives carers receive a set fee for providing support to
individuals living with them, typically funded by the local council or NHS.
